Al-Rai Al-Aam – Sudan’s oldest daily newspaper.
In March 1945, the Sudanese newspaper Al-Rai Al-Aam (Public Opinion in Arabic) was established as the first daily newspaper concerned with politics in the Sudanese belt from the Red Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. In the following year, the newspaper’s founder, Ismail Al-Atabani, participated in the Los Angeles Conference, which was the basis for the United Nations. He was the only journalist from East and Central Africa in this landmark global event in the history of contemporary international politics.
Since the establishment of Al-Rai Al-Aam, Sudanese journalists have been reporting political insights and news from African continent.
Today Al-Rai Al-Aam is the largest Arabic news outlet in Sudan and it has been covering news and developments in The Sudan and the region without fail since 1945 – in the face of political turmoil, military conflict and coups d’état.
